What to do in Milan with children?

5 Fun Ideas +1!

At first glance, you might think: why visit Milan with kids? The fear of boring them is always around the corner, especially when you think of Milan as a city of fog and smog. Nothing could be further from the truth! With our tips, you'll be ready to change your mind. Between museums, interactive exhibitions, large green parks, history, culture, art, and design, Milan is the perfect city for a family weekend. In addition to selecting the best activities for children, we've added some suggestions for the most suitable hotels for a family vacation.

1. Climb to the Top of Milan Cathedral (Duomo)

One of the first things to do in Milan with children is definitely a visit to the Duomo Terraces. Our advice is to entertain the younger travelers with a real treasure hunt to discover the strangest decorations hidden among statues and spires. Some ornaments are truly amusing, like tennis rackets or boxing gloves.

2. Visit the National Museum of Science and Technology

Entering the Museum of Science and Technology, located right in the center of Milan, is like being transported to a parallel universe. Housed within an ancient 16th-century monastery, the museum winds through numerous educational paths: Leonardo's first machines, the helicopter flight simulator, and the enormous exhibition with over 10,000 objects will leave everyone speechless.

3. Play at MUBA, the Children's Museum

Forget those classic museums with boring display cases or endless explanatory panels! The Children's Museum of Milan, or MUBA, promotes non-formal education for children aged 1 to 12. Through creative workshops, play experiences, and experimental pathways, the goal is to develop the curiosity and creativity of the youngest audience in a fun and alternative way. Its traveling exhibitions are a must-see for anyone visiting the Lombard capital with children!

4. A Break in the Green of Parco Sempione

Parco Sempione is the large green lung of the city of Milan. Its wide grassy expanses, carousels, and play areas are like a small outdoor paradise for children. In addition to the charming pond with ducks and turtles, Parco Sempione hosts the Civic Aquarium of Milan and the Triennale, the only institution in Italy dedicated to design.

5. A Dive into the Ecosystems of the Civic Aquarium of Milan

Not far from Sforzesco Castle and within Parco Sempione, the Civic Aquarium of Milan is the ideal place for an educational experience in a super stimulating environment. Famous for being the third oldest aquarium in Europe, it houses 38 tanks and more than 100 different species of fish, amphibians, rays, and starfish living in reconstructed natural environments. The Art Nouveau building, with an external facade decorated with a statue of Neptune, is a legacy of the 1907 Expo.

6. Stay in a Family-Friendly Hotel

At our hotels in Milan, family trips go smoothly. Modern and welcoming, there's one for every occasion.
