History and town planning

How did Grenoble develop into the city it is today? Founded in 43 BC, it quickly became the city of trade between Switzerland, Italy and Provence. Still today, its historic centre hosts remnants of its diverse influences. During the wars with Savoie, Grenoble expanded its military presence but its modernisation came with the Winter Olympics in 1968. The hosting city even created new quarters. Today, the Polygone Scientifique quarter is the second largest research centre in France.
