Mechelen is particularly popular for its famous béguinages houses, true witnesses to the history of the city ever since, during the Crusades, they housed women living in a community after their husbands had gone on their pilgrimage.

As another must-see monument among the region's many historic buildings, Saint-Rombaut Cathedral is certainly the most impressive. This Gothic-style building, whose construction lasted nearly three centuries and was completed in the 16th century, is dominated by its tower that is 97 meters high. The Saint-Rombaut Tower is undoubtedly what makes the cathedral it overlooks so special, since it is in fact the tallest tower in the province of Antwerp. Climb the more than 500 steps leading to its summit to enjoy a unique view of the city.
