The Orly area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. At the end of the 10th century, a church here was referred to. A possession of the chapter of Notre-Dame de Paris, the village rebelled against taxes in 1250, for which many of its inhabitants were arrested. Besieged during the Hundred Years’ War, the town lost nearly half of its adult population. The modern town was founded in the second half of the 19th century. Orly experienced major population growth between 1910 and 1938. The airport was built in 1945.
