Occupied as early as the Lower Paleolithic period, the village of Roissy was first mentioned in an act of donation to the Abbaye Saint-Victor de Marseille. The estate, which was ruled over by Jean Jouvenel des Ursins at the beginning of the 15th century, later became the breadbasket of the kings. In the mid-16th century, a fair was established on November 3rd, and it continued to be held each year until the mid-19th century.
In 1790, the city became an independent commune. The city was transformed with the construction of the airport. The work was completed in 1974 and the Aéroport Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle is now the largest airport in Europe by surface area.
During your stay, you can take a walk in the gardens of the city hall or the themed gardens of the Parc de l'Orangerie, which showcases species from around the world. You can also admire the three-hundred-year-old cedar tree in the Parc du Cèdre or enjoy some fresh air in the Vallée Verte and its 90 hectares of nature in the heart of the Val d'Oise.
Or you can chose to admire the Eglise Saint-Eloi built in 1560, which is home to a superb Renaissance choir, or the ruins of the Château des Caramans, of which only the east wall and the southern door of the orange grove survived the Revolution.
You can also discover the Concorde landing gear built by Air France, the fountain on the Avenue Charles de Gaulle, which represents the gourd and the scallop shell, symbols of Santiago de Compostela, and the monumental contemporary sculptures that decorate the streets of Roissy.
