History and Town Planning

Occupied as far back as the Roman period, the city of Cannes, originally no more than a small fishing village, was transformed in the 19th century into a tourist destination that would become very popular with the gentry, in particular the Brits. After welcoming an increasing number of aristocrats seeking sun and warmth over the years, Cannes became even more famous during the 20th century, with the organisation of its famous Film Festival. This event transformed the city into the internationally-recognised symbol of French glamour and elegance that it is today.

Walks in the area

While Cannes is particularly well known for its Croisette, the 7-kilometre boulevard lined with luxury boutiques that follows the coastline, numerous other nearby points of interest are also worth visiting. You can discover the port of Cannes, which is home to some of the world’s most luxurious yachts, head out on the hiking trails amid the ochre-coloured rocks of the Massif de l’Estérel, board a boat to visit the Iles de Lérins, dive into the crystal clear waters of the Bay of Cannes and more. There are countless ways to enjoy the wealth of the Côte d’Azur.

Heritage

In addition to its idyllic setting, Cannes is bursting with exceptional listed sites such as the fortress of the Ile Sainte-Marguerite where the Man in the Iron Mask was held prisoner, the Monastery of the Abbey of Lérins, and prestigious villas (such as the Villa Rothschild), and hotels with typical early 20th-century architecture.

Festivities

You can’t miss the Cannes Film Festival, organised each May, if you stay in Cannes during the spring. Between parties, film screenings and shows, the film industry is celebrated day and night for two intense, exceptional weeks.

The prestigious Orchestre de Cannes offers high quality classical music concerts and children’s activities year round. The city also offers plays and exhibitions throughout the year at the Espace Miramar.

Whether you’re travelling for business, a family holiday or an athletic event, you will find everything you need to rest and rejuvenate during your stay in our affordable hotel in Cannes.
