Travel to the heart of historical heritage

Reach downtown Montluçon in a few minutes from the train station by walking along Avenue Marx Dormoy. This will take you directly to the heart of the medieval city, which is the most popular district of the municipality.

Stroll along the charming cobblestone streets of the historic center, in the shade of half-timbered houses, and wander through Wilson Park with its beautiful flowerbeds of shimmering colors.

Perched in the center of the medieval city, the castle of the Dukes of Bourbon, important to the city's heritage, opens its doors for you to explore its history-filled rooms. 

Stretching over more than 320 kilometers, which makes it one of the largest canals in France, the Berry Canal is particularly popular with all kinds of hikers and walkers. Its banks offer the chance to go for long walks or bike rides over distances that are suitable for everyone.

One end of the canal is located in Montluçon, in the extension of the Cher, and it crosses Saint-Victor and joins Fonblisse more than 50 kilometers north of Saint-Victor as one of its three branches. You can easily find a map of recommended walking routes along the canal. If you feel like it, visit the Berry Canal Museum, located 10 minutes north of the hotel. You will learn all there is to know about the life of the bargemen, the construction of the barges, and the maintenance of the banks of the canal.

What is there to do near Montluçon and Saint-Victor?

A 30-minute drive north of the B&B HOTEL Montluçon Saint-Victor is the forest of Tronçais and its famous oak trees. These trees are renowned for their advanced age (some trees are more than 350 years old!) as well as for the quality of their wood, which is used to make the barrels in which many spirits and other great wines are kept. From the very top (some reaching more than 40 meters), the oaks of the Tronçais forest will make you feel the weight of their history. This huge wooded garden covers nearly 11,000 hectares and is an excellent place for trips, with many routes to choose from, whether you want to go on foot or by bike.

Numerous ponds are also scattered throughout the vast expanse of the forest. Some even give you access to supervised swimming and offer a variety of nautical activities to share with family or friends: canoe-kayak, paddle or pedal boat rental, there is something for everyone.

A place that is not very well known and visited but that has a certain charm, we suggest you take a look at the ruins of the Thizon castle. The castle, located less than 5 minutes drive from Saint-Victor, does not feature any special architectural treasures or visits with historical anecdotes. However, the place is bathed in a soothing calm and is located in the heart of a valley where it is good to get some fresh air.

Always in this spirit of medieval vestiges, the fortress of Hérisson displays the rest of its towers just a short 20-minute drive from the B&B HOTEL Montluçon Saint-Victor.
