Stiftsruine

Im Stift 6, 36251 Bad Hersfeld, Germany

The ruins of the collegiate church of the former abbey stand imposingly amidst the greenery. It is considered the largest Romanesque church ruin in Northern Europe. Its construction began in the eighth century. Over the course of history, extensions, destruction and new buildings have followed, but the impressive appearance of the mighty walls has remained. Since 1951, the building has served as the venue for the Bad Hersfeld Festival.
