And when thinking of Christmas, one of the most suitable Italian destinations is Trentino Alto Adige. Discover how to best experience the city of Trento and breathe in the magical atmosphere of its Christmas markets.

Christmas Market in Trento city center

The most famous area of Trento, to fully experience the atmosphere of the Christmas markets, is surely the city center. The entire historic center is indeed festively adorned with illuminations and lights that change year to year to always offer visitors the charm of Christmas.
Under the Duomo, specifically in Piazza Fiera and Piazza Cesare Battisti, you will find “The City of Christmas” the setups of classic stalls where you can buy typical products, enrich your Christmas tree with hand-painted glass Christmas decorations, or sip a warm mulled wine. The stalls in this area are as many as 90, truly for all tastes.

Christmas Market in Trento with children

Santa Claus is at home in Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore in Trento and can be met on Advent weekends. For the classic souvenir photo, some candies, and booklets. The Children's Square will also host Santa's House this year and many elves to entertain the little ones. And the surprises do not end here, you can also find: educational workshops, Santa's sleigh and a farm with ponies. To visit the historic center of Trento in total comfort you can also ride the magical Christmas Train. 

Where are the Christmas markets near Trento?

If you are looking for even more typical glimpses, it is possible to visit many Christmas markets near Trento. Almost every town in the area takes the opportunity for the Christmas atmosphere. The B&B Hotel Trento also suggests a visit to Rovereto or, for those who prefer snowy landscapes, in Valsugana. 

Rovereto
Rovereto is only 25 minutes from the B&B Hotel Trento and offers various events during the Christmas period: the classic wooden houses, white and elegant, with food stands and local crafts. The entire historic center of Rovereto, the eighteenth-century palaces and the medieval bastions will be festively lit. Santa's Village will be inaugurated on Saturday, November 23rd and it will be possible to hang the letter for Santa Claus on a Wishing Tree. In Piazza Rosmini the “Great Tree” will be lit: 18 meters of fir.

Pergine Valsugana
Towards the mountains, just 15 minutes from the B&B Hotel Trento, you will find instead Pergine Valsugana with the famous Mercatino di Natale dei Canopi. This Christmas market is truly unique: all mining-themed and, for its tenth anniversary, with children as protagonists. The little ones will be able to play among gnomes, groves, mines and magical characters… who knows maybe even the Canopi. The Pergine Valsugana program is truly rich.
   In addition to the Christmas market the program includes: parades, typical music and dances, White Lady, Fire evenings,  celebration for San Nicolò (December 6th) and to finish the Befana Scalatrice on January 6th.
