What to see in Friuli Venezia Giulia

Friuli Venezia Giulia is a large northeastern region of Italy, bathed by the Adriatic Sea and protected by the Dolomite mountains, a UNESCO heritage site, where winter sports can be practiced.

What to see in Friuli Venezia Giulia

The first place to visit in Friuli is the cosmopolitan city of Trieste, the regional capital, which since ancient times has been an important crossroads for sea trade. Here we recommend the B&B Hotel Trieste, strategically located to allow you to discover all the city's secrets. Among these, many are linked to the foreign relations that have always characterized and shaped the history of the coastal city: today they are visible in the palaces, in the parks of the medieval historic center, and in the neoclassical Austrian district of Trieste, such as the famous Miramare Castle, an ideal destination during a holiday in Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Between one cultural visit and another, we recommend stopping at one of the historic cafes in the Friulian capital to savor its taste and atmosphere. Indeed, Trieste has a great tradition in this field: thanks to its port trade, it has developed over the years both important industrial realities linked to coffee processing and a rich network of cafes where, especially in the past, important personalities from the literary world, such as Italo Svevo or James Joyce, gathered.

The Friulian Riviera and Mountains

Leaving the Gulf of Trieste, tourists looking for long days of relaxation on the beach cannot miss an appointment with the small town of Lignano Sabbiadoro. A few kilometers from here, heading west, the small village of Grado is recognized as an important tourist center thanks to its thermal baths, but it is also known to most by the name of Isle of the Sun or the First Venice.

Udine and the Lakes

Heading north, towards the mountains, we encounter the city of Udine, an excellent starting point for visiting the Renaissance buildings in the central Piazza Libertà, the Loggia del Lionello, and the Cathedral, with its rich Baroque interiors. Our suggestion for visiting these areas is the B&B Hotel Udine. From here, moving to the municipality of Tarvisio, tourists can immerse themselves in the splendid mountain landscapes of the region, a favorite destination in winter for winter sports, and in summer for the fabulous panoramas that frame the Fusine Lakes, among the most beautiful examples of Alpine lakes on the peninsula.
