What to see in Cremona

For your next weekend getaway, come discover the city of Cremona!
Take advantage of B&B Hotels Italy's affordable prices and don't miss the opportunity to visit one of Lombardy's most charming provincial capitals, just over an hour from Milan.

Piazza del Comune with Cremona Cathedral

The place we recommend you start your tour to discover Cremona is certainly Piazza del Comune, one of Italy's most beautiful squares, where you'll find the Duomo, the Baptistery, the Torrazzo (symbol of the city and Italy's tallest stone tower), the Loggia dei Militi, and the Palazzo del Comune.
Curiosity: the Cremona Cathedral is also called "the Sistine Chapel of the Po Valley" thanks to a cycle of frescoes capable of leaving any visitor speechless. The square is dominated by the Torrazzo, a bell tower that boasts an astronomical clock measuring 8.5 meters, two meters larger than London's Big Ben.
What characterizes the municipal square is the historical juxtaposition between politics and religion: civic power and that of the Church have coexisted for centuries facing each other. Opposite the Cathedral are two buildings: the Palazzo del Comune (where you can visit the famous Violin Room, the Council Room, and the Hall of Paintings) and the Loggia dei Militi, which takes its name from its historical function of hosting the city militias when they gathered.

The museums and monuments of Cremona

Cremona is an art city with a very rich cultural and artistic heritage. Among the masterpieces you can admire are not only churches and historic palaces (which we have already mentioned) but also internationally renowned museums. Cremona is in fact also famous for being the city of violin makers: at Palazzo dell'Arte you will find the Violin Museum, where you can see up close instruments made by great masters such as Amati; Antonio Stradivari and Guarnieri.
It's impossible not to stop and visit the city's other museum: the Civico Museo Ala Ponzone and Palazzo Affaitati, residence of the noble and eponymous Cremonese family.

Typical gastronomy of Cremona

It's impossible to talk about Cremona without mentioning the typical delicacies of its cuisine. The variety of typical products offered is rich: from cured meats to cheeses like Grana Padano, to traditional dishes like marubini and Cremonese bollito, up to the typical and representative dessert of the city: torrone, in whose honor the Torrone Festival is celebrated every year.

To discover Cremona, book your room at the B&B Hotel Cremona, just a short distance from the city center and close to the main attractions.
