Discover the heart of Alsace, its picturesque villages and popular specialities!
Discover the birthplace of Alsatian humanism
Walk the streets of downtown Sélestat to discover the essence of Alsatian charm through its cobbled streets and half-timbered houses. Close to the city centre, visit the Tanneurs district to soak up this unique atmosphere and enjoy a quiet stroll. You’ll have the opportunity to taste the regional cuisine in one of the local restaurants. Sit on the terrace and enjoy one of the à la carte specialities such as royal sauerkraut, baeckeoffe or Munster.
A must during your visit to Sélestat is the humanist library which houses thousands of old books including a specific collection of nearly 700 volumes dating mainly from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. These works were donated to the city by Beatus Rhenanus, one of the most famous Alsatian humanists, and are included in UNESCO's ‘Memory of the World’ register for their priceless historical value.
A short jaunt through the Vauban ramparts, south of the city, will awaken the poet in you thanks to the more than 300 street signs with a blue background. These ramparts, built in the seventeenth century, have been partially destroyed over the years, but the plaques and their small texts that invite us to travel today adorn their remains and make it a unique place for an enjoyable walk.
Take a higher view by going to the castle of Haut-Koenigsbourg. This fortress dating back to medieval times was renovated in the twentieth century, which lends both a historical and a modern aspect. Take the opportunity to visit its interiors, including the dungeon, the weapons room or the great bastion.
Enjoy the superb view from the castle garden, which offers you a unique view over the plain of Alsace.
Activities await the whole family in Kintzheim, about a 10-minutes’ drive west of the B&B HOTEL Sélestat Centre-Alsace. The charms of the Greater East region, on the Franco-German border
The surroundings of Sélestat are sure to entertain you as well, on both sides of the border. Head to the city of Rust in Germany to enjoy the attractions of Europa-Park, for young and old alike.

The latter is also regularly mentioned in the lists of the most beautiful villages in France.
A few kilometres north of Sélestat, you’ll have the chance to visit the shrine located on Mont Sainte-Odile, at over 700 metres above sea level. Guides will introduce you to the place and its history.
