What to do in Lourdes

Lourdes, which is famous for its Sanctuary, is a must-see destination for pilgrims and tourists from all over the world! The Sanctuary of Lourdes, known for its apparitions and its famous pools where visitors come to meditate and bathe in the water reputed to have miraculous properties.

For lovers of nature and magnificent panoramas, the Pic du Jer is a quintessential attraction. Accessible via a funicular, it will take you to an altitude of 1,000 metres, where you will have a breathtaking view of Lourdes, the Pyrenees and the valley. Not far from there, the Bétharram Caves offer a fascinating underground experience with its impressive galleries, which can be explored on foot, by boat and by narrow-gauge train, a real adventure for young and old!

Culture and history lovers can visit the Château Fort de Lourdes, a medieval site overlooking the city. For more active types, the region also offers an array of outdoor activities, not least the ski resorts in the surrounding area such as Hautacam, Luz-Ardiden, Cauterets, Cirque de Gavarnie and La Mongie, which draw fans of winter sports and of hiking in summer.

Lake Lourdes is the perfect place to relax for a family day out, offering water activities and beautiful walks around its banks. Animal lovers will like the Parc Animalier des Hautes Pyrénées, where you can observe local species in their natural environment.
