Comfortable, convenient, with excellent breakfast.
Stayed on our route south, due to convenient location and decent reviews. Booked two rooms as no family rooms left. Two teens and two adults. Rooms a bit small but absolutely adequate. Shower excellent, complimentary shower gel, straightforward out of hours booking in but actually the reception was still open at 8.30pm. We booked breakfast, which was fresh, simple and plenty of it. Buffet style. Yogurt, muesli, cereals, brioche bread, croissant, bread, cheese, ham, juice, coffee and hot chocolate machine. Option to take away hot drinks too, for your journey. Was quiet, considering just off main road. Perfectly fine Buffalo Grill next door, with 20% off for guests. Would definitely use again.

History and town planning

During the Gallo-Roman period, Alençon was a simple river crossing on the Sarthe At the beginning of the 11th century, the city was described by sources as a fortified market town. Two hundred years later, Alençon was established as a duchy. Spurred on by Marguerite de Lorraine, the duchess of Alençon, the city experienced significant growth in the 15th century. It was made part of the royal estate in the 16th century, becoming one of the hotbeds of the Reformation. Colbert also established the Manufacture Royale de Dentelles here. Alençon lace, an adaptation of Venice lace, quickly became popular far and wide.
