Discover Cologne’s Rheinauhafen Harbour! In the harbour quarter, along with flats and offices, there are lots of cafes, restaurants and galleries. The landmarks of Cologne's new district, the Kranhäuser, impress with their unique architecture and the mark they leave on the left bank of the Rhine.
Directly on the Rhein, sits the impressive landmark of Cologne Cathedral. The Gothic cathedral, the third-largest church in the world, features a 100-metre-high south-facing tower with amazing views. Be warned, though, you’ll need to climb 533 steps to get there. Those who make the climb will be rewarded with breathtaking views over the old town and the Rhein. If you’re not making the climb, there’s still plenty to be impressed by with the monumental interior and the chambers of the cathedral.
Experience the history of chocolate in the Chocolate Museum! You can also discover what today’s production line looks like, up close. From the tropical house, where you can admire a cocoa tree, to the production line, where you can discover everything you’ve ever wanted to find out about chocolate. One of the highlights is definitely the chocolate bridge, where you can snack on Lindt chocolate. Get lost in the world of the so-called “brown gold”!
The famous love padlocks make for a beautiful symbol of Cologne’s bridges. Lovers’ padlocks hang on the fence of the Hohenzollern Bridge as a symbol. To make sure that love lasts forever, the keys are thrown into the Rhine. The padlocks are individually designed, mostly with an engraving, but also painted, decorated or glued with home-made additions.
