Murcia, 1 hotel

Situated in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula, in the fertile plain of the Segura River and less than 50 kilometres from the sea, lies Murcia, a sunny and wonderful region that still hides many secrets to be discovered. In addition to its extensive cultural heritage, there are wild beaches, a great university atmosphere and some of the best fresh produce in the world. There is a reason why Murcia is called the market garden of Europe. At B&B Hotels we suggest many things to do in the area and we invite you to stay in one of our hotels with the best services.

What to see in Murcia

The city of Murcia has a lot to see and discover along its streets. One of the must-see walks is through its majestic old town, where you will find the Santa Iglesia Catedral de Santa María, better known as the Cathedral of Murcia. Built between the 14th and 15th centuries, the cathedral was declared a National Monument in 1931. Near the cathedral we have the streets of Trapería and Platería, one of the liveliest areas of the city, where we can stroll, eat or enjoy a coffee.
The capital of Murcia is a city with a great university tradition, with all the virtues that this entails in terms of life, entertainment, music and nightlife. However, if you are looking for a different kind of trip and a quieter activity such as hiking, Murcia is also a perfect city for this. One of the most popular routes is through the Sierra Espuña, where you will find numerous well-marked routes with unique views of the walls of Leyva and the Barranco de Gebas.
Visiting Murcia is synonymous with good weather. The area has one of the driest and mildest climates in Europe, with few days of rain per year and an average annual temperature of almost 20 degrees Celsius. This combination makes the region the perfect place to grow fruit and vegetables. This is why Murcia is known as the market garden of Europe. Therefore, on your visit to Murcia you should not miss the opportunity to try one of its most delicious, healthy and well-known dishes: ratatouille from Murcia. Ratatouille brings together the best produce from Murcia's market gardens, such as tomatoes, aubergines, peppers and onions. Other typical dishes from Murcia are the caldero del mar menor, a rice dish based on fish and local produce, or the famous paparajotes murcianos, a dessert made from lemon tree leaves.
About 50 km from the city of Murcia is Cartagena, a municipality with an infinite history where a visit to the Roman Theatre of Cartagena is a must. This Roman theatre was built between 5 and 1 B.C. in the ancient city of Carthago Nova.
Travelling a similar distance from the capital of Murcia is the Mar Menor, a saltwater lagoon with a unique plant and animal life. Although the area is seriously threatened by various environmental problems, it is a unique visit that we at B&B Hotels highly recommend.
Puerto de Mazarrón, with dozens of kilometres of sea and coastline, is another wonderful visit. The calmness of the waves, the sound of the seagulls and its small coves will make you get lost in a unique environment with an enviable climate.
We can also take advantage of our visit to Murcia to go to one of the nearby regions and stay in one of the best value for money hotels that B&B Hotels offers you in Almeria or Alicante.

Murcia is a region to visit all year round, but if there are two seasons with a special colour are Easter and the Spring Festival of Murcia. As in many Spanish provinces, Easter is a unique and special period for the people of Murcia. Once Easter is over, the Spring Festival begins, where the squares and gardens of the area display their traditional gastronomy, together with a great musical atmosphere and events of all kinds.
