Where to book in Clermont-Ferrand?
History and urbanism
The ancient capital of the Gauls, Clermont-Ferrand was long famed for its battles, from Vercingétorix to Gergovia. But its history didn’t really start until the 18th century, when Louis XV decided to unite two towns: Clairmont and Montferrand. Since then, the city has had two pedestrianised centres and four historical districts: Champratel, Croix de Neyrat, La Gauthière and Les Vergnes. The town’s rise was mainly due to the Michelin family, whose tyre empire built the city’s wealth and reputation. Art deco architecture appears in entire districts. Could you tell which ones ?
Window shopping in Place de Jaude, strolling through the historical Montferrand district, a cultural trip to Volcania, a tour of the Michelin factory… There’s no shortage of things to do in the Auvergne capital to spice up a family weekend or business tourism trip! After so much exploring, there’s nothing better than somewhere comfortable to rest, like our accommodation in Clermont-Ferrand !
What with the basilica of Notre-Dame du Port, the cathedral built of lava, the statue of Vercingétorix, the Place de la Victoire and the Roger Quilliot Art Museum, there are so many great things to see when you stay in Clermont-Ferrand !
You are in one of the French cities that hosts the most music and cultural festivals, such as the Jazz Auvergne Festival (April) and the International Festival of Short Film (February). But Clermont-Ferrand also values the great outdoors. Which is why it hosts more than 15 sporting events, such as the Open des Volcans golf tournament (in September). It certainly swings !
