Where to book in Évry?
History and urbanism
A town for nobles, with its many chateaux and fine residences, Évry was marked by the Second World War. Although partially destroyed, the town was booming thanks to the Decauville family, who developed a successful industrial business. After the war, Évry launched itself into an amazing urban adventure. The “New Town” was built from scratch in the 1960s to relieve pressure on Paris. Ever since it has proudly mixed old and new to please all its visitors !
Walking along the banks of the Seine, taking a break in the Coquibus Park, a spot of shopping in the Évry 2 mall or a cultural stroll exploring the chateaux…. There’s something to suit everyone in the Essonne area over a family weekend !
History fans won’t be disappointed! The town is home to no fewer than eight chateaux in the surrounding countryside. If you are curious, push open the door of the Château du Grand Bourg. Converted into a school, its grounds are some of the most beautiful in the town. Keep your eyes open during your stay in Évry. Somewhere, under a tree, the “stone man” is hiding, the oldest statue in the town !
Évry’s diary makes plenty of room for culture. There’s the book fair (October), Photography Month (November), the fête de la musique (June), Poetry Encounters (March)... Whatever your passions, there’ll be a place for them here! And better still, all these events are free !
